$1M bail for man accused of killing UG Employee in road accident

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Sixty – Nine – year – old driver, Balgobin Persaud of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, charged with causing death by dangerous driving was today placed on $1M bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Persaud pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on August 6 at Dennis Street, Campbellville, Georgetown he drove a Forklift in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of Latchman Sukdeo, who was an employee of the University of Guyana’s Library Department.

Police Prosecutor, Seon Blackman told the Court that on the day in question at around 08:00 hrs, Persaud drove out from Crown’s Mining and turned West into Dennis Street when he collided with Sukdeo, who was a riding a motorcycle.

Sukdeo received injuries and later succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Persaud’s lawyer in his bail application told the Court that he is married with three children and is not a flight risk.

The Prosecutor did not object to bail, as he informed the Court that accused was already placed on station bail and fully cooperated with the Police during the investigations.

Bail was granted and Persaud is scheduled to reappear in Court on September 25.
