19 – Year – old Taxi Driver remanded to prison for armed robbery

[www.inewsguyana.com]A 19- year – old taxi driver of Lot 265 Independence Boulevard, Georgetown was today, Monday December 23 remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the offence of robbery underarms.

Teairri Cush pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on December 19 at Robb Street, Georgetown, being in company of others armed with a gun, he robbed Naresh Singh of $1 million, property of Mark Smith.

Police Prosecutor, Bharrat Mangru told the court that the defendant was the driver of a 212 motorcar and on the day in question; he was in the company of another person who approached the virtual complainant (VC) to change US$5,000

The Court heard that the victim was in the car with the accused when they robbed him and then dropped him off in Kingston, Georgetown.

Attorney- at – Law, George Thomas represented Cush and argued that his client was hijacked by two men and two women who forced him to commit the act.

According to the lawyer, his client made a report to the police immediately after he was released by his “hijackers”. He was remanded until January 21, 2014.
