[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 19 -year-old boy accused of escaping from Police custody while he was under investigation has been remanded to prison by City Magistrate Alex Moore following his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 19, 2015.

It is alleged that Leroy Neil of Lot 207 Coldingen, East Coast Demerara on October 14, 2015 was at the Alberttown Police Station in custody, pending a charge, during which he escaped from lawful custody.

Neil, who pleaded not guilty to the offence, told the court that on the day in question, he was hauled by the Police for a traffic offence. When he asked them what was the matter, the officers told him he was driving without a helmet and demanded that he accompany them to the Alberttown Police Station to have his motorcycle lodged.

The young man, who is the father of a one month-old child, lamented to the court that while being locked up at the Police Station, a police officer unlocked his handcuff and went about his way, so he decided to go home.

He noted that it was not until he was at home that the police came and re-arrested him. He was nevertheless remanded and will make his next court appearance on November 20.
