Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at about 21:07 hrs last night (Sunday 02nd February 2025) on Den Amstel public road, West Coast Demerara, which resulted in the death of an 18-year-old motorcyclist.
The accident involved motor car #PAJ 7560 owned by Essential Supplies Inc of Seaforth Street, Campbellville and driven at the time by Gavin Samier Bacchus, a 26-year-old from Patentia Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara; and an unregistered motorcycle #JSP 4, owned and driven by Finidy Miggins (now deceased), an 18-year-old from Lot 31 Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, and pillion rider Terron Miggins, a 19-year-old from Lot 31 Den Amstel.
Enquiries disclosed that motorcycle #JSP 2 was proceeding East along the northern side of Den Amstel public road, at a fast rate of speed, and whilst overtaking a motorcar (number unknown), it ended up on the southern side of the road and collided head-on with motorcar #PAJ 7560 which was proceeding west along the road.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist and the pillion rider were flung in the air and fell onto the road surface where they both received injuries about their bodies. They were picked up in a conscious state and taken to Leonora Cottage Hospital by public-spirited citizens where the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries whilst receiving medical attention and the pillion rider was treated and then transferred and admitted a patient at West Demerara Regional Hospital suffering from broken legs.
The body of the motorcyclist was escorted to the Ezekiel Mortuary, awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination. Investigations are in progress.
