[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 37 – year – old labourer was today (Friday, March 14) sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for break/enter and larceny.

Devon Rodney pleaded guilty to the offence which detailed that between March 11 and 12 he broke and entered Hugh October’s Restaurant and Bar on Regent Street, Georgetown and stole a gas cylinder, beverages and $108,740 cash, together valued at $153,140.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the Court that around 19:00hrs on March 11, the Virtual Complainant (VC) secured his business place and retired to bed. On March 12, around 06:00hrs he woke up and discovered that a window on the western side of the building was broken. He carried out a search and the articles mentioned in the charge were missing.

The VC saw the prisoner on his surveillance camera and the matter was reported to the Police and the footage was also given to them.

The Prosecutor added that defendant was charged on several occasions and convicted for similar offences.
