It is the first time that an investiture ceremony has been organised to specifically honour organisations and groups for their outstanding service to the nation.

The groups, which received awards on Tuesday were the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA), the Central Assembly of God Church, the E R Burrowes School of Art, the Guyana Islamic Trust, the Guyana Veterans Legion, the Makushi Research Unit, Mings Products and Services Limited, the National Dance Company of Guyana, Roadside Baptist Church Skills Training Centre Inc, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, South Central People’s Development Association and the Theatre Guild of Guyana.

Delivering his address, President Granger, who is the Chancellor of the Orders of Guyana, said that a better day could not have been chosen to confer the awards, since it is this date, 46 years ago, that Guyana ended the incongruity of having the Queen of Great Britain as the Queen of independent Guyana.

President Granger said national awards are not only a supreme symbol of statehood but are the greatest gift that a grateful nation can offer as they are the embodiment of the spirit of our people.

The Medal of Service acknowledges the achievements of groups – that is, of collectives, cooperatives and communities. It also honours associations, corporations, organisations and other groups. Their sacrifice, selflessness, success and service to their communities, country and society have been consistent and of a high quality.

  1. Lets hope to god this man does not give out the same shame award again….like he did a few months ago awarding Burhnam for being the best president of Guyana only two months later the award was revoked to be the WORLD HALL OF SHAME AWARD…because he was pin point in the Walter Roodney assassination. The PNC claim big success at the 46th Guyana Mash when the crowd was 80% Afro, 5% Indian, 15% others….Let this party not forget that they are rapidly loosing creditability among the hard working people and gaining popularity among the lazy-people…..fast money gainers….Rigging elections will be among their top priorities for the next few to come BUT Jagdeo has strong footing…he is just waiting for the right time to exposed these criminals…..
