1 in custody over discovery of firearm, ammo at Itaballi

A man is now in custody pending an investigation into the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and matching ammunition in his possession on Sunday at Itaballi, Mazaruni, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

custodyAccording to reports, about 11:00h on Sunday, Police ranks conducted a search on a man at the Itaballi Checkpoint, during which an unlicensed 9mm pistol with seven rounds was found.
He was arrested and an investigation was launched. Charges are expected to be laid shortly.

In the past two months, a number of persons have been arrested with illegal guns and ammunition in Region Seven.

Just last month, on February 4, three men were arrested at Turtle Creek, Mazaruni, after they were found to be in possession of illegal guns and ammunition.

Police ranks in the area acted on information and went to a location at Turtle Creek, where an unlicensed .32 pistol with three matching rounds was found in possession of one of the men.

In addition, another of the men was carrying an unlicensed .38 revolver with three matching rounds of ammunition.
They were placed before the courts.

Similarly, on February 11, a miner was arrested when an illegal firearm was found in a mining camp he was occupying.
Then, last week, Police conducted a search at Honey Camp, Issano, Region Seven during which they found an unlicensed shotgun along with two cartridges.
The miner was taken into custody and charged, and is currently before the courts
