One person has been arrested in relation to the murder of Daniel Fraser, a 26-year-old Lance Corporal of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Shanicka Forde.
This was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum. INews understands that the suspect is the child father of Forde, whose four-year-old son is currently in Barbados.
According to the Crime Chief, the suspect was arrested based on information received that he had in the past threatened the woman after he found out she had moved on with the GDF rank.
Contrary to police reports which indicate that the GDF rank and the woman were together for two weeks, family members explained that the couple shared a long-distance relationship for about a year.
Forde, who is a Guyanese, currently resides in Barbados but she recently returned to Guyana to gather up several documents to apply to become a member of the Barbados Defence Force.
Forde was staying with a friend at South Sophia, Greater Georgetown while Fraser resided at ‘A’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
Last evening, the couple was at a shop in the area consuming alcohol, and at around 23:00hrs they left to head home when they were gunned down by a man on a bicycle.
Police said as the couple was travelling along the last street in ‘B’ Field Sophia on a motorcycle, they were approached by the perpetrator who discharged six rounds in their direction.
Fraser and Forde were picked up by Fraser’s brother and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in a taxi where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Fraser received one gunshot wound to his chest while Forde received three shots – one to the chest, one to her right knee and one to the right side abdomen.
Investigations are continuing.
