THE DEATH OF ADRIANNA YOUNGE

Timeline of Events 

Wednesday, April 23, 2025

• 13:00h – Adrianna Younge, 11, along with her grandmother and other relatives went to the Double Day Hotel at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) to swim
• She reportedly disappeared between 13:00h and 14:00h
• After being unable to check security cameras from the hotel, family members reviewed footage from a neighbour’s security camera which showed no signs that the girl left the establishment
• 20:00h – Reports of the missing 11-year-old girl began circulating on social media leading to a large gathering of concerned citizens outside of the hotel
• 23:59h – The Guyana Police Force released a statement indicating that the child was reportedly abducted by a “red and black Raum bearing registration number PSS 4684”. However, the family indicated that she was not seen leaving the premises on the video footage they reviewed and therefore remained at the entrance to the hotel all night, adamant that the girl was somewhere in the hotel
• Some persons were able to visit the pool area and reported no signs of the child

Thursday, April 24, 2025

• 08:00h- 09:00h – Relatives and other residents of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) blocked the road in the vicinity of the Double Day Hotel and proceeded to burn objects over the disappearance of the child
• President Dr. Irfaan Ali later contacted Adrianna’s mother via telephone, assuring her that a full-scale search would be launched, including the deployment of sniffer dogs
• 10:30h – The body of the child was found in the pool at the hotel. There were marks of violence on her body
• The owners of the hotel and at least one worker were arrested
• Following the discovery, the protesters and family members began destroying the hotel which they subsequently set alight

• The frustrated crowd also proceeded to the home of the hotel’s owner and torched that property
• President Dr. Irfaan Ali released a statement ordering a special investigation into the death of the child: “I have asked the Commissioner of Police to assemble a special team to lead the investigation into all the circumstances surrounding 11-year-old Adrianna Younge. We must uncover the full truth of everything that transpired, and no resource or effort will be spared in doing so. Whatever specialized resources are required to determine every aspect of the events and circumstances will be provided.”
• Additionally, he has asked the police to explain, in detail, every action taken since the matter was reported

• 14:00h – The Guyana Police Force released a statement admitting that “certain details contained in the initial statement circulated were inaccurate.” As such, the Force said it is reviewing the internal communication processes that led to the release of that statement
• Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo issued a strong call for transparency and accountability from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), demanding answers and the release of video footage it claimed it had related to the death of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge
• The Government has ordered that an independent post-mortem examination be conducted on the body of Adrianna Younge. An independent international pathologist Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul was contacted to arrive in Guyana from Barbados to conduct the post-mortem examination
