Woman succumbs to injuries following vehicular accident with Constable

A 57-year-old pedestrian who was involved in a vehicular accident on Wednesday morning on the Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara, died about 04:30hrs this morning while being admitted in the Female Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The driver of the car that  struck her down is in police custody assisting with the investigation. He is a serving member of the Guyana Police Force.
According to the police, their investigations revealed that about 08:00hrs on the day of the incident, motor car PVV 8233 owned and driven by the police Constable was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of Success Public Road, when the pedestrian, Pulbattie Ramotar, a domestic worker of Success, ECD, reportedly ran across the road from south to north into the path of the vehicle and was struck down.
She was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the GPHC where she was admitted and subsequently died.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Friday.
The Police reported that a breathalyzer test was administered to the serving officer and no alcohol was detected in his breath. Several statements were reportedly taken from eyewitnesses.
The investigation is ongoing.
