Woman robbed of valuables by armed bicycle bandits

A 24-year-old vendor was on Monday afternoon robbed of approximately $100,000 in Guyana and US currency, her mobile phone, ID card and one gold chain valued at $40,000 after being ambushed by two males in the vicinity of James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.

Information received disclosed that the victim, Chandroutie Mahatoo was being towed by her younger brother, on a bicycle, heading east along James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown when they were confronted by the two suspects on separate pedal cycles.

The perpetrators reportedly came off of their cycles, blocking the path of the victim and her brother. One of the suspects allegedly whipped out a firearm form his right pants waist and pointed it at the duo.

Based on information received, his accomplice then withdrew an ice pick from his waist.

Upon seeing the armed men, the young lady immediately handed over her bag containing the mentioned articles.

The bandits then fled the scene on their respective bicycles, east along James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.

Investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been made.
