A mother of four was made to stand before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday morning at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with embezzlement.
Pauline Stewart, 42, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between January 1, 2015 and July 18, 2016 in Georgetown, she embezzled G$2,085,305, while employed as a clerk or servant at Country Pride.
According to the prosecution, the money was given to the accused to deliver to her employer but she failed to do so.
However, the Prosecution did not object to bail for the defendant and this was granted in the sum of G$40,000. The case will continue on November 3.
As a condition for bail, the defendant was also ordered to report weekly at the Brickdam Police Station.
