[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 34 – year – old Welder was remanded to prison on Thursday, January 29 by Magistrate Fabayo Azore on a robbery with violence charge.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant explained that about 01:00 hours that day, Rajkumar was on his way home when Barker confronted him. Grant said that the defendant cuffed and kicked the victim about his body before relieving him of the items.

According to the Prosecutor, during the robbery Rajkumar pulled out a knife and stabbed Barker causing him to receive injuries. The Court heard that Barker made good his escape but later sought medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Grant said that the police were alerted which led to Barker being arrested and placed under guard at the institution while he received treatment. The defendant was subsequently discharged from the hospital and charged with the offence.

The Prosecutor told the Court that investigations are ongoing in several matters of a similar nature and more charges are likely to be laid against Barker. Grant opposed bail due to the nature and gravity of the offence as well as the penalty it attracts.
