They both were picked up by the same GDF vehicle and taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where the 65-year-old Persaud was pronounced dead on arrival while his granddaughter was transferred to, and admitted a patient at, the Georgetown Public Hospital. The dead man leaves to mourn his wife and five children among other relatives. His body was taken to Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem.

Tasha Persaud, a daughter of the now dead man, told this publication that she was not at home, but received a telephone call from a relative, informing her of the accident.

Based on what she was told, she said, the army vehicle was responsible for the accident. She noted that her father sustained injuries to his head and other parts of the body, while her niece suffered a fractured shoulder and lacerations to her hand and head. The infant is, however, out of danger and has been listed as being in stable condition.
