Tucville driveway shooting: Businessman charged with murder

The Tucville businessman, who allegedly shot and killed 25-year old miner, Colin Perreira, and seriously injuring his girlfriend after they drove up in a heavily tinted car on his driveway, was today charged with murder.

Robert Benn of Tucville, Georgetown, appeared before City Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face the charges of murder and discharging a loaded firearm with a view to committing a murder.

Benn was remanded to prison until September 16, 2016.

According to reports, at about 21:00h on Tuesday last, in Perry Street, Tucville, Benn opened fire on Perreira and his girlfriend as they drove the car onto the his bridge with the intention of turning. The businessman was in his yard at the time and allegedly thought that the occupants of the car had gone to commit a robbery.

Perriera was shot three times to the chest and abdomen while the woman was shot twice. She remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital in a stable condition.
