[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 46-year-old truck driver of Kwakwani Airstrip, Upper Berbice River was remanded to prison on Tuesday, June 30 by Magistrate Ann McLennan on charges of simple larceny and escaping lawful custody.

George Gildharie denied both charges, one of which alleged that between June 19 and 26 at Araima Road, Upper Berbice, he stole 30 pieces of Wallaba lumber valued, $60,000 property of Shabeer Yusuf.

It is also alleged that on June 29 at Kwakwani Police Station, Upper Berbice River, he escaped from lawful custody.

Police prosecutor, Dinero Jones successfully opposed bail on the grounds that Gildharie was held for a simple larceny matter and during that time he drove away. The unrepresented man was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court for July 17.
