A 30-year-old unemployed male from Rubber Dam, Charity on the Essequibo Coast, was arrested this morning after he robbed a Venezuelan national at a hotel.
The Guyana Police Force said the incident occurred around 03:00 hrs at a hotel in Charity.
According to the police, the 32-year-old victim, Alexander Gregorio called ‘Alex’, of Portia Ortiz, Venezuela, was standing in the hotel’s lounge, when the suspect approached him and relieved him of his brown wallet, which was in his front pants pocket containing US$5,200.
The victim was also relieved of his passport and a Samsung Galaxy-brand cellular phone, after which the robber escaped.
A report was made and quick response by the police resulted in the suspect being apprehended with some of the stolen articles (US$2,600 and the phone) recovered.
