[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) will take their national squad to Suriname to take play against their Dutch counterpart in three friendly basketball games as part of their ongoing preparations for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships set for July in the British Virgin Islands.

The GABF finalised the plans for the friendly matches with Suriname recently and will face the Dutch side starting from May 1 to 4 at the Anthony Nesty Indoor Stadium from May 1-3 each night.

The 17-man team is expected to depart the shores of Guyana by bus from 02:00h on May 1 for the clash.

However, 12 players will be selected on April 25 from the current squad in training at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) under Coach Darcel Harris. The other five members of the touring party will include coaches, managers and a referee.

With Guyana slotted in the same group as Suriname for the upcoming CBC Championships, the tournament will provide the Guyanese with much needed experience ahead of the championships.

The meeting is also the second of its kind for the Guyanese squad, having faced Bermuda earlier in the year and winning all three encounters. Bermuda is also a member of their group in the upcoming CBC Championships.

Meanwhile, the GABF is hoping to attain funding from the Government, the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and the Corporate Community to assist in aiding the Guyana Men and Women National Basketball Teams for costs related to Guyana’s participation 2015 CBC Championships which is the pinnacle basketball event for CARICOM territories.
