[www.inewsguyana.com] – Minister of Social Cohesion, Amna Ally is not too pleased that the Opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP) suggested that her ministry should be scrapped.

General Secretary, Clement Rohee recently told a news conference that the PPP will ensure that the “so-called Ministry of Social Cohesion does not succeed in its divisive manipulative, deceitful and bribe-sharing efforts to divide Guyanese socially, politically a long religious line ostensibly for electoral purposes.”

In her response, Minister Ally said that “Mr. Rohee, in this regard, is fiercely and pugnaciously in the wrong. There are deliberate efforts by the Government to encourage citizens of our country to cooperate with each other in order to survive and prosper as Guyanese. Mr. Rohee counsels the contrary and I have noted his comments with utter disgust.”

She further noted that “The PPP/C through their mouthpiece, Mr. Rohee, continues to conduct themselves with arrant infidelity to their constituents and the Guyanese public at large. What he is accusing the Ministry of is what he is guilty of and this has led to the defeat of his party. The people of Guyana, those in the region and international community would have none of it.”

She said that the APNU + AFC government is aware that Guyana is becoming increasingly diverse as a result of changing demographics, economic restructuring, political dynamics, differences along ethnic, and racial lines as well as increased mobility.

“We take the position that diversities can challenge social cohesion and they can also contribute to harnessing cohesion… We, therefore, resent the tirade of insinuations of division bleated by Mr. Rohee.”

According to the Minister, “It is about time that he ceases to be bitter, articulating race and hate based messages and do that which is right. He and his Party must concede defeat at the 2015 National and Regional Elections and embrace nation building. He must also know that longevity in power is the culprit of cognitive decline and he stands out like a sore thumb as exhibit “A”.
