Real Estate Agent slapped with fraud charge, granted bail

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 36 – year – old Real Estate Agent of Duke Street, Kingston Georgetown today placed on $100,000 bail for obtaining money by false pretense.

Shawn Waaldijk pleaded not guilty to the charge before Magistrate Judy Latchman and was told to return to Court on September 30.

It is alleged that on February 18, 2013 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he obtained the sum of $500,000 cash from Alicia Joseph by falsely pretending to be in possession to sell a house lot [number – 1473 XXIV] at Buxton Village, East Coast Demerara, knowing same to be false.  

The Court was told by Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant that the Virtual Complainant’s (VC) uncle introduced her to the defendant. He allegedly took Joseph to the area where the land is located.

The victim agreed to buy the land and the defendant told her he wants $500,000 for the same. The Court heard that the VC visited the land surveyor’s office and was told that the land belongs to someone else.

The accused was represented by Attorney – at – Law, Paul Fung – A – Fat, who noted that his client has been working as an agent for 16 years.
