As investigations continue into the shooting of a young couple which occurred last Saturday night at Rasville, Georgetown, Police “A” Division Commander, Clifton Hicken has disclosed that the video footage from the night of the incident is being reviewed.
“We’re presently looking at the footage, we have the information and we are working on it,” he told Inews earlier today.
At approximately 20:45hrs at the Shirley Field Ridley Housing Scheme, Rasville, Georgetown, 19-year-old Johnnick La Rose of Guyhoc Park, Georgetown and his 18-year-old girlfriend, Troyan Barton of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara were shot by an unidentified individual.
La Rose received a gunshot wound to his jaw, while Barton was shot to the back of her neck.
Reports indicate that La Rose identified his attacker as a “Rasta man.”
La Rose’s uncle had told reporters that on the night of the incident, his nephew was about to take his girlfriend home, when they stopped at a shop.
However, it was while they were exiting the shop that a man walked up to them and opened fire. Barton was allegedly shot first, which resulted in La Rose turning to face the attacker and being shot to his face.
As the couple began to flee in an attempt to save themselves, the shooter gave chase and according to La Rose, the man was heard shouting “you mess ‘round with meh nephew!”
The duo managed to run to La Rose’s home where they collapsed in front of the house. They were subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by the family, where they are receiving medical attention.
