Dear Editor,

Executive Secretary of the PPP, Zulficar Mustapha.
Executive Secretary of the PPP, Zulficar Mustapha.

[www.inewsguyana.com] We wish to express our strong objection to the decision of the Media Monitoring Unit to label a speech of Former President Cde. Bharat Jagdeo at Babu John on the 8th day of March, 2015, as “…racially divisive…” We regard the position adopted by the MMU as unfair and a gross misinterpretation of what was actually said. Was the speech of Cde. Jagdeo reviewed in its entirety, no reasonable mind could have arrived at such an interpretation. Cde. Jagdeo was simply reciting what was actually being peddled by other political parties and indeed, proceeded to condemn those statements and that type of political mobilization in strong terms. Indeed, he was condemning racism. He said, “Anybody from our party who uses that sort of language, we will kick them out. This is our approach”.

Are we to assume that you are encouraging political parties to use racism as part of their political campaign and strategy? We in the PPP have always and will continue to condemn racism whenever it rears its ugly head. That is precisely what Cde. Jagdeo did. It is mindboggling how you can interpret that to be “racially divisive”. It is the complete opposite.

We note your conspicuous omission to express a viewon Kaieteur News’s very skewed and malicious twist of what Cde. Jagdeo said in an article a day after the event under the screaming headline, “PPP is a coolie people party- Jagdeo”.We also recognise that you failed to even respond, more so, express a view on our complaints to you in relation to statements uttered by Mr.Ramayya from the APNU/AFC on television in Berbice. We note also that you have refused to comment on a complaint which we have lodged with the Commissioner of Police in relation to the Kaieteur News story. These omissionscoupled with your misinterpretation of what was actually said byCde. Jagdeo force us to question not only your objectivity but also your organisation’s professionalism and perhaps political bias.

In the circumstances, we request a review of your decision at the earliest possible timeand a retraction of what you published in relation thereto.

Yours faithfully,

………………………

  1. A leopard can never lose it spots.jagdeo speech is just a representation of what he believes.Other people are not wrong about what he said.babu john suppose to be a place where people should be educated on the lives and times of the jagans but instead it becomes a place where people just shows out their true colours it becomes a cuss out and race baiting parade.think before you talk

  2. dont hold your breath…they will not retract…they are all in bed as opposition to ppp..ppp does not have security on its side..ppp does not have the judiciary on its side since the racist in the guyana bar association is opposition to ppp…look who filed charges against jagdeo..suspenders lalloo balls..go-dee man woman beater..laalloo name does appear on the gba to..ppp between a rock and a rock..

  3. Is this guy for real? Ha ha ha he needs to read what rohee daughter said , about black people, she get kick into the party, let this excuse of a person go and do some soul searching, and then turn to God and ask for forgiveness for his lying soul.

  4. The MMU is indeed unfair and biased. What about recent remarks made by the suddenly “resurrected” Rupert “Revolutionary” Roopnarine, calling on people to “revolt”? This was a very sensitive statement from this washed up “politician”. This man didn’t get a chance to execute his stratagem against Burnham, looks like he still plans to try it out. Its obvious he may be losing it and needs help and guidance. The MMU must step in. Roopnarine and Surujbally, I understand are close friends.

Jagdeo’s remarks were against racism. The MMU was likely encouraged to join the clutch of chickens who are simply afraid of what Jagdeo knows and what he will say and expose next. Trying to muzzle him will fail. I support the former President to stay on the platform and continue to speak for his party, the PPP/C, and the people of Guyana.
