Police shoot dead: Man who allegedly drew gun, threatened officer

A Yarakita, North West District, Region 1 resident, Shaka Bourne, who reportedly pointed a loaded firearm at a police Constable, was shot and killed by the said rank with his service revolver around 07:45hrs on Tuesday morning at Yarakita Village.
The police disclosed that a Constable armed with a service revolver responded to several reports, including threats to members of the community allegedly made by Bourne.
Police say that the now dead man on seeing the officer, immediately drew a loaded unlicenced revolver, threatening to shoot the Constable, who “instinctively  discharged a round from his service revolver hitting him in the head.”
Bourne was reportedly disarmed and rushed to the Mabaruma Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body is presently at the Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The unlicensed .38 Revolver with five live matching rounds as well as the service weapon used by the policeman have been lodged.
A thorough investigation into the incident has reportedly been launched by Divisional Commander, Senior Superintendent Ravindradat Budhram.
