One dead, two critical in Pomeroon boat collision

One man is dead while two others are severely injured following a two-boat collision in the vicinity of Grant, Lower Pomeroon River, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

Dead is Ryan DeFreitas, 28, of Lower Pomeroon, who suffered the brunt of the impact.
The two injured persons were identified as Kenneth Garraway, called ‘Scar Face’, 52, of Charity New Housing Scheme, Essequibo and Civil Abdul, 55, of Mabaruma, North West District.
According to information received, Garraway was captaining a wooden boat powered by a 200 hp Yamaha outboard engine and was heading to Port Kaituma, while Abdul was steering a similar boat powered by a similar type of engine and was heading to Charity, Essequibo Coast.
While information remains sketchy, Essequibo Divisional Commander Ravindradat Budhram confirmed that the boat accident did occur, but he was not in possession of any information about it being fatal. He noted that the two injured men were rushed to the Suddie Hospital where they were admitted and are being treated for several bodily injuries. The Police have launched an investigation.
