Miner remanded on firearm, ammo charges

A 33-year-old gold miner of Mabura Landing, Upper Demerara River was remanded to prison by Magistrate Clive Nurse on the charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

The defendant, Klaus Pearce made his first appearance at the Linden Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The first charge alleged that on Saturday March 10, he had twenty two (22) .380 live ammunition at Seaballi Backdam, Upper Demerara River, without being the holder of a firearm licence at the time.

The second charge alleged that on the same date while at the same location, he had a matching .380 semi automatic pistol in his possession without a firearm licence being in force at the said time.

He was remanded to prison until April 5.

According to Police information, the defendant was arrested by ranks at approximately 09:45hrs on the day in question at Seaballi Backdam, Upper Demerara River with the unlawful weapon and matching ammunition.
