The man who was intercepted at the Eugene Correia International Airport (Ogle) on CARICOM Day (July 3), and found to be in possession of 774 grams of cocaine, was earlier today fined and jailed when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Eon La Blanc, 35, of Lot 101 Ogle Street, Triumph, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was jailed for four years and ordered to pay a fine of $5.1M when he appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly.

He admitted to being in possession of 774 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking between July 3-4, 2017.

On the day of his arrest, La Blanc was an outgoing passenger on a Liat flight destined for Barbados.

However, he was observed by Custom Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks sweaty profusely and acting in a suspicious manner.

He was approached, questioned and later taken to the Woodlands Hospital where an x-ray showed the substance in his body.

A field test conducted showed that the substance was cocaine.

La Blanc was made to excrete the pellets which amounted to the above mentioned amount.

He was then taken to CANU’s Headquarter where he admitted to the offence.

When asked by Magistrate Daly if he had anything to say, the man simply said “I am very sorry for what happened”.

The sentence was then handed down.
