A Turkeyen man was remanded to prison after he reportedly stole a $50,000 gold chain from a woman in the vicinity of Commerce Street, Georgetown.

Marlon Williams, 31, of Lot 266 “B” Field, Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara (ECD) denied that on May 21, he robbed Dharshanie Ramsook of the said gold chain.

Ramsook was reportedly walking close to Commerce Street when she was approached by Williams who ordered that she be quiet.

He then proceeded to remove the chain from her neck after which he made good his escape.

An alarm was raised and the defendant was captured shortly after the incident.

As such Police Prosecutor, Arvin Moore, objected to bail being granted based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.

Bail was denied and Williams was ordered to return to Court on June 25 2018.
