[www.inewsguyana.com] – The commander of B Division Brian Joseph has confirmed that a prisoner who is currently on remand at the New Amsterdam Prison located at Penitentiary Walk , Berbice lit a mattress on fire just after lunch on Tuesday, April 15.
During an interview with iNews (www.inewsguyana.com), the Commander noted that the situation is under control and that there was no attempt by any prisoner to escape from the facility.
The Commander could not go into details as to what caused the prisoner to set the mattress on fire. As such, an investigation has been launched into the matter.
