[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana’s Martime Administration (MARAD) has revealed a Guyanese has died on board a St. Vincent and Grenadines registered cargo ship, while eight Guyanese crew members have been quarantined.

This is being done as the authorities are trying to determine the cause of death. MARAD did not reveal any names.

“The other members of the ship’s crew were ordered to remain on board where their condition is being monitored and until the exact nature of the death and illness have been determined,” MARAD stated in a statement.

According to them, “This is a usual precautionary measure to protect the local population from contracting any possible communicable disease.”

It was revealed that the cargo ship departed Georgetown on Thursday, March 6 with ten Guyanese crew members and a consignment of cargo in bulk, with St. Lucia as its destination.

According to MARAD, when the vessel arrived in St. Lucia on Sunday March 9, a crew member had already died and another was ill.
