[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana’s first and only Synthetic track was commissioned on Friday April 17 and dubbed the National Track and Field Centre.

In front of a packed crowd, President Donald Ramotar delivered the featured address noting the facility augurs well for the future of Guyana’s athletes.

Ramotar also stressed that Regional and International events must be kept on the track to promote Guyana’s beauty.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Sport Dr Frank Anthony called the event “a historic day” for Guyana.

Dr Anthony highlighted that the facility will only allow Guyana’s athletes to improve and hopefully turn Guyana into a power house throughout the region and further afield.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sport, Alfred King highlighted the journey to completing the facility and called the event “special”.

Ramotar and current Prime Minister Samuel Hinds went onto unveil the name of the stadium before a few track events followed and a short football game concluded the programmed of the opening.

  1. Zarene, We are always right. Clinton Urling is a African, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop is an Indian, and Young Miss Africo Selman is a Proud Amerindian (Indigenous). I am more of an Indian with four races in me. What are you?
    Guyana has and will always have race issues. You need to start travel the world to understand this. The thing is you PNC people are not thankful for what God has allow the PPP to do for Guyana.

  3. Smooth operation at the synthetic track with no accusation and only one set of people may be benefiting. What a way to Modernization! Guyana has really been Developing. Guyana is blessed to have the right people to Govern this beautiful Country, and now young people like Clington Urling, Africo Selman, Peter Ramsaroop,Yusuf, Balant Persaud, etc. joining to help propelled Development.
    PNC/AFC sleeping, they forget to protest at the opening. No more buns and coolade for them.

  4. strange that this track is commission and Guyana could not be represented at the carifta games because they could not find money to send anyone.
