A Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) businesswoman is in a critical condition after she was shot to the face during a botched robbery earlier this evening (Wednesday).
Reports are that 56-year-old Gomattie Ramrattan was shot by two masked gunmen. According to reports the gunmen attempted to force their way into the woman’s Seventh Street, Diamond, EBD home, but their efforts were thwarted after she managed to close a grill door leading to the premises.
Before falling unconscious at the hospital, Ramrattan disclosed to her sister that she was about to close her back door when the men jumped the fence.
She related that she managed to close the grill door and one of the men shot her after realising that they could not enter the house.
Police have since launched an investigation.
