Even as the Police are making stringent efforts to tackle crime and continue to report that serious crimes are down by 17 per cent, businesses and citizens alike are in fear of the constant robberies being executed by daring bandits who have become more emboldened in their execution of crimes.
A case in point occurred at approximately 10:30hrs today, when a bakery truck attached to a Cotton Field, West Coast Berbice company was intercepted and robbed of an undisclosed sum of cash and valuables by three bandits in the vicinity of Xenon Academy at Grove, East Bank Demerara.
According to reports received, four young men were seen scouring the Tank Street, Grove area prior to the brazen day light robbery.
A member of the community told the Inews that three of the four young boys –allegedly teens- rode up on two pedal cycles near the Xenon Academy private school where one occupant of the bread truck was exiting after making a delivery.
One of the bandits, whom was reportedly carrying a handgun, ambushed the bread company employee, while a second proceeded to drag the driver out of his vehicle. The third alleged accomplice rode away from the scene.
The two bandits who remained, then reportedly proceeded to rob and physically abuse the delivery men before calmly walking away with an undisclosed sum of cash.
The action was captured on CCTV cameras nearby. The matter was reported to the Grove Police Station and an investigation has been launched.
