GDF Lieutenant charged with causing road death granted $200,000 bail

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 26 – year – old Lieutenant attached to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was today granted $200,000 bail for the offence of causing death by dangerous driving.

Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Anthony Eastman of Well Road, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on November 1, 2013 at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, he drove motor vehicle PPP 2210 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Ronald Gonsalves.

Representing the defendant was Attorney – at – law, Mr. Armstrong, who told the Court that his client is not a flight risk and has been cooperating with the Police during investigation.

Eastman was ordered to post bail and return to Court on October 21.

  1. I wonder when we will start putting people in Jail when ‘death’ is caused due to dangerous driving. Isn’t it like manslaughter? Even though it’s not premeditated, it’s as a result of wilful action.
