First Lady Mrs. Sandra Granger, today, offered words of comfort and support to grieving Ms. Ophelia James, who lost two children in an accident on the Aruka River on the evening of Thursday, August 25.
Ms. James is currently an in-patient of the Female Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) nursing serval injuries, including two broken ribs, a fractured shoulder blade and punctured left lung, following the collision. The First Lady, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Presidency, extended condolences to Ms. James on the death of her two children and spent several quiet moments speaking with her. The attending physician also updated the First Lady on the woman’s prognosis.
Ms. James and her family, including her husband Mr. Basil DaSilva and their children, nine-year-old Loyzal DaSilva, seven-year-old Daveannand James and an older sibling, of Central Kumaka, were sailing home when a boat hit theirs from behind, causing it to capsize and tossing them into the river. The younger children perished, while the eldest and their parents managed to swim to safety. Mr. DaSilva escaped with minor injuries and the eldest child is unharmed.
Meanwhile, the First Lady also visited Presidential Guard, Constable Jamelle Joseph, who is warded in the same hospital wing as she recovers from minor surgery.

The First Lady looks beautiful in her sleeveless dress , yet the public is still denied entry into Government places of business, even to the office of the First Lady. President Granger and the First Lady spoke out about the dress code rules , yet the hostile guards are still preventing the public from entering the buildings with sleeveless, short pants, slippers, ‘V’ neck tops. Here again shows the weakness of our President who cannot put a halt to this practice . Since there is nothing in the laws of Guyana prohibiting one from wearing the clothing of their choice , I would dare any security or police to put their hands on me preventing me from entering a place of business because of my attire.
