[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty – Seven- year – old Randy Hawker was today sentenced to 56 months imprisonment on a larceny from person charge by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The father of five pleaded guilty to the offence, which stated that on July 20 at Campbell Avenue, Georgetown, he stole from Trisram Fraser two gold chains and one Samsung Galaxy cellular phone, together valued $390,000.
Police Prosecutor, Joel Ricknauth related that on the day in question, the virtual complainant (VC) and her sister were on Campbell Avenue, when Hawker and another unidentified person were riding on a motorcycle.
The defendant snatched the articles mentioned and immediately after, the victim raised an alarm. With the assistance of Public spirited citizens, Hawker was apprehended and taken to the Prashad Nagar Police Outpost, meanwhile, the other accomplices managed to escape on the motorcycle.
The unrepresented man said he was caught in the act and begged the Court for leniency. He told the Court that he is a construction worker by profession and was sentenced to three years imprisonment on a simple larceny charge previously.
