Drunken cop charged, transferred over accident at Bush Lot Village – GPF

The Guyana Police Force (GPF), earlier today, said that the policeman who was involved in an accident at Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice, while being under the influence of alcohol, was charged accordingly.
A statement from the GPF said Constable Joshua Ali was yesterday charged as follows:
a)      Breach of Condition of Provisional Licence and
b)      Driving under the Influence of Alcohol.
Ali appeared before Her Worship Rhondell Weever at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined a total of $37,500.00.
According to media reports, the policeman, on Monday last, slammed into a businessman’s pickup whilst it was parked in the corner of the road.
According to media reports, at around 10:30hrs, on the day in question, the policeman who is the holder of a Provisional License, was driving motor car PFF 4473 owned by Mahadeo Dhamon.
While driving at a very fast rate, east along the northern Carriageway at Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice, Ali reportedly lost control of the car and slammed into motor pickup PLL 8801.
Both vehicles were severely damaged as a result of the accident.
Ali was subsequently arrested and tested and found to be over the legal limit of alcohol.
Further, he has since been transferred from the Traffic Department to the General Duties Section of the Guyana Police Force.
