Dog food vendor critical following beating from restaurant owner

cedar-2x4A dog food vendor is now in a serious condition after he was severely beaten with a piece of 2×4 wood at Main and Chapel Street, New Amsterdam, last night.

The injured man was identified as Osarin Stuart of Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje Berbice.

Reports indicate that the owner of a Chinese restaurant and Stuart had an argument over him selling food in front of his business [Chinese restaurant].

The argument subsequently developed into an altercation between the two men, during which Stuart armed himself with a piece of wood. He reportedly dropped the wood and was in the process of walking away, when the owner of the restaurant –a Chinese National- picked up the wood and dealt Stuart several blows to the head and left leg.

According to the Police the injured man was picked up and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was treated but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital and admitted.

The 33-year-old restaurateur was arrested and is assisting police in their investigations.
