Corentyne man remanded for murder of wife

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Deochand Sookchand appeared before City Magistrate, Ann McLennan, charged with the murder of his wife, Pamela Kendall, who was a cash crop farmer.

Sookchand appeared in court on Friday, August 28 and was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which alleged that on August 20 at Lot 19 #45 Village, Corentyne Berbice, he murdered his wife.

The Prosecution did not elaborate much on the findings of the Police investigation but stated that there are outstanding statements and police are still investigating the incident.

Sookchand, called “Cakes” was remanded to prison until September 14 and is slated to reappear at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.

It was after the murder of his wife that Sookchand was later implicated since, according to reports, traces of gunpowder residue were found on his hands.

The 56 – year – old cash crop farmer was shot dead at her Lot 19 #45 Corentyne Berbice home during a power outage in the area on August 20. Sookchand had claimed gunmen invaded the premises while he was in the shower and his wife was in the kitchen.
