Corentyne man arraigned for wife’s murder

The Corentyne man who brutally murdered his wife in the full view of the public, was earlier today arraigned for the crime.

The father of four, Winston Benjamin, 43, of Ulverston Village, Corentyne, Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga at the Whim Magistrate Court to answer to the charge of murder.

murderHe was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Ulverston Village, Corentyne, Berbice, he murdered his reputed wife Yansen Tamika Brushe.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Phillip Sherriff told the court that the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and more so, detectives have obtained statements required to prosecute the accused father of four.

The accused was remanded to prison and is expected to reappear on December 19, 2016 for the commencement of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI).

Benajmin’s only request to the court was to see his eldest daughters and as such, it was granted.

Following the fatal stabbing of his reputed wife at a shop, a few houses away from her Ulverston home, Benjamin went into hiding.

However, he was subsequently found and apprehended some 15 miles into the Backdam.

Up to the time of his capture, he was still in possession of the alleged murder weapon.
