Construction worker remanded on marijuana charge

marijuana[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty – two – year old Quacy Jordon; a Construction Labourer of Lot 1032 Kaneville, East Bank Demerara appeared before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore, charged with the illegal possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The court heard that on November 25, 2015 at Kaneville, he had in his possession 27 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking; he pleaded not guilty to the offense.

The Prosecution objected to bail due to the gravity and nature of the offense; as such he was remanded to prison and is scheduled to return to court on December 07.

  1. The Coalition government needs to change the marijuana laws in Guyana to at least reflect the current situation in Jamaica. Filling the jails with young men for possession of small quantities of marijuana does not solve any problems, creates criminal records, and could destroy lives. This in a country where the most abused drug is alcohol.
