Construction worker jailed for 3 years following Grove Drug Bust

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Construction worker, Dexter Daniels of Kara Kara, McKenzie Linden, who will be celebrating his 45th birthday tomorrow was sentenced to three years imprisonment today.

The father of one had appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the recent Grove, East Bank Demerara drug bust.

However, today he changed his plea to guilty. Particulars of the charge state that on Monday, July 7 at Lot 922, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, he had in his possession 4.222 Kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The other charge stated that on the same day, he also had in his possession 1213 Kg of marijuana.

According to the Prosecution facts, the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) acting on information went to the Golden Grove address, where a canter was parked on a bridge. It was locked and the CANU use force to enter.

As a result of a search, a quantity of packets were found and further checks revealed that the packets contained what was suspected to be cannabis.

However, acting on additional information, the ranks carried out a further search on the house at the same address mentioned. In doing so, other illegal substance at the time suspected to be cocaine was found.
