Leader of the Alliance for Change Khemraj Ramjattan said that the A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance for Change (APNU/AFC) Government is doing “wonderfully” despite scathing criticisms from several quarters of the population about some of its policies and the many scandals that have being unearthed by the Opposition and media at various points in time.

Ramjattan, speaking at the AFC’s weekly press conference which recommenced today, explained that despite the challenges faced by the coalition Government over the past 15 months, it remains “strong and cohesive”.

“We have been learning plenty about government and governance too and this presents a unique challenge especially in the context of our politics in Guyana and the extreme scrutiny that we do face…We are pleased though that in relation to this collaborative manner that we are working in this coalition Government, that it is doing quite frankly wonderful.

“Lessons have been learnt in relation to the incidents we have had to confront and the missteps we have taken. We feel that democracy is largely alive and kicking in Guyana…”, he remarked.

Ramjattan said that Government will listen to the people on all issues. As his seat shifted while addressing the media, Ramjattan explained that the party is happy because of the extensive feedback it is receiving from the public.

Meanwhile, AFC Executive Member Cathy Hughes outlined her vision for the country’s development with respect to the Public Telecommunications sector.

“We have an opportunity and we are really very committed to make fundamental changes. It’s not change that can happen in one or two years…one of the things that I am excited about is that so many people are now getting involved in the discourse”, she told the media corps.
