(Trinidad Express) A lifeguard who married a girl who was 14 years old when he was charged with committing eight sexual assault offences against her, has been committed to stand trial for the alleged offences.

The now 20-year-old woman and the 33-year-old accused were married last year.

The man whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the woman, was charged back in 2011 with eight offences of sexual assault on a minor.

The matter was heard before San Fernando senior magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine. She committed the man who was represented by attorney Ainsley Lucky to stand trial at the San Fernando High Court.
