[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty – three – year-old Seron Skeete, an employee of Cevon’s Waste Management was remanded to prison after he was charged with the offence of robbery under arms before Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Skeete, of Broad Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, initially pleaded guilty to the charge, which alleged that on August 23 at Saffon Street, Georgetown, being armed with a knife, he robbed Nandkumarie Maraj of one Nokia cellular phone, one hand bag and one kitchen bowl, together valued $7,500.

Following his explanation, a not guilty plea by entered by the Magistrate.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that around 18:00 hrs, the Virtual Complainant (VC) was waiting on her husband when she was confronted by the accused.

The Court was told that Skeete placed the alleged knife to the victim’s neck and demanded that that she gives him the hand bag which contained the articles mentioned in the charge.

Subsequently, the VC saw the Police on patrol and quickly reported the matter after he made good his escape. He was arrested and the articles wee recovered.

Skeete told the Court that he has been working with Cevon’s Waste Management for three years and denied robbing the woman.

However, the Prosecutor successfully objected bail on the grounds of the nature and gravity of the charge.

The unrepresented man was remanded to prison and the case will call again on September 29.
