Another person charged for Rohee robbery

A man was on Monday charged with carrying out a daring robbery at the home of former Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

robberyDellon Wills, 28, of Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD), pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

It is alleged that on November 9, 2016, at Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, Wills robbed Anjanie and Anika Layne of jewellery and cash totalling G$2.6 million, property of Clement Rohee.

It is also alleged that on the same day, at the same location, Wills robbed Anjanie and Anika Layne of jewellery valued G$1 million, property of Chandanie Rohee.

The defendant was previously charged for causing death by dangerous driving.

On the day of the incident, the two maids (the Laynes) were in the home which the men, who were carrying guns and a knife, invaded.

After confronting the two women, the bandits held them at gunpoint and ordered them into the upper flat of the building, where they gagged and bound them with duct tape.

The men then ransacked the home and found a quantity of jewellery belonging to the Rohees, after which they made good their escape.

The prosecution stated that currently the Police were in possession of CCTV footage which showed the accused carrying out the act along with others.

Bail was granted at G$100,000 for each charge, and the matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court.

Wills is scheduled to return  to court on January 11, 2017, and is expected to lodge his passport.

A woman whose car was used in the robbery was recently charged with the crime.

  1. why did he get bail? This is not the first time he has been charged for robbery.

    Background checks needs to be taken into consideration when requested bail.
