9 arrested during Police raids in Linden

A total of nine persons were arrested following a Police operation on Saturday evening in several areas in the mining town of Linden.

The men were arraigned on charges of narco possession and break and enter and larceny, and escaping lawful custody.

The raids, which lasted some 10 hours, were conducted in Mackenzie, Amelia’s Ward, Block 22, One Mile and Silvertown.

Those who were charged for narco possession include Carl Simmons, 30, of Berbice Road, Mackenzie; Kevon Chester, 30, and Ryan Samuel, 35, both of Central Amelia’s Ward and Leon Ross, 22, of Wismar Housing Scheme. They were all sentenced to 100 hours of community service.

In addition, Khalil Mustafa, 21, of Wismar Market Area, who was also charged with escaping lawful custody, was remanded to prison until April 19, 2017. Vernon Arthur, 57, of Wisroc Extension, was sentenced to 50 hours of community service and Shawn Alleyne, 23, of Amelia’s Ward, pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics and was placed on $45,000 bail. He will reappear at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on April 18.

Eon Anderson of Alstron Alley, Wismar, was charged with break and enter and larceny committed on the home of Lance McCalmon at Christianburg Wismar. He pleaded not guilty to the offence and was remanded to prison until April 19.

Finally, Julius Branker, 19, of Central Amelia’s Ward, was also charged with break and enter and larceny, at the dwelling house of Deanna Emanuel and Marquita DeSouza of Amelia’s Ward. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until April 25.
