63-yr-old charged with accessory to Corentyne triple murder

A man was earlier today charged and remanded for being an accessory in the Black Bush, Corentyne triple murder, when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Chaitram Catchew aka “Cashew”, 63, of Corentyne, Berbice, was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on July 22, 2016, and the days following, he received, relieved, comforted and assisted Jairam Chaitram, Tameshwar Tajmohan, Carlton Chaitram and Ramesh Karamchand knowing full well that they murdered Pawan Chandradeo, Jaikarran Chandradeo and Naresh Rooplall at Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice.

Catchew was remanded to prison and is expected to reappear in court on October 18, 2016.

The four other accomplices identified as Ramesh Karamchand, Carlton Chaitram, Jairam Chaitram and Tameshwar Tajmohan, all of Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne were previously charged for the crime.

On Friday, July 23, 2016, the bodies of Pawan Chandradeo, Jaikarran Chandradeo and Narish Rooplall were discovered lying next to each other on a dam at Cookrite Savannah, Black Bush Polder, with gunshot wounds. The discovery of the bodies was made shortly after daybreak by a rice farmer.

In a release, the police had indicated that each body bore a single gunshot wound.
