46 – Y – O Miner remanded for Marijuana possession

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Forty – six – year old Wade Mentore, a Miner of Rainbow City, Linden was today refused bail on narcotics charge by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Mentore pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on September 18 at Mogaria Hill Top Dam, he had in his possession 460 grammes of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question around 15:00 hrs, Police stopped the defendant who was at the time driving a motorcycle.

A search was carried out on a blue shopping bag and two parcels were found including the marijuana. Prosecutor Grant opposed bail on the nature and prevalence of the offence and the fact that no special reason was raised by the defendant.

He was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for October 14.
