3-year-old critical, several injured following accident

The driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup was on Wednesday evening taken into police custody, reportedly, for reckless driving and causing a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Waterloo and Middle Streets, which led to six children being injured – one of which is critical- as well as three adults.

Critical: Nikosi Corbin, 3, suffered a broken leg and head injuries

Three-year-old Nikosi Corbin is currently being hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) with a broken leg and head injuries.

His siblings Nikita Corbin, 9, Nicholas Corbin, 12, and Nikolai Corbin, 1, his cousins- Dejohn and Denai Fields- his mother, Lavern Corbin and her two aunts were also injured.

Based on reports received, the family were travelling in motor car, PPP 291 which was being driven by Lavern Corbin, a Rural Constable attached to the Anna Regina Police Station.

Inews was informed that at approximately 20:35hrs, she was travelling on Waterloo Street heading to Lamaha Street when the pickup, which was turning on Middle street reportedly lost control and slammed into her vehicle.

The woman reported that no assistance was offered to her by the driver of the Toyota pickup, who she said was having a conversation on his phone.

Public spirited persons rushed the family to the GPHC for treatment.

Investigations are ongoing.
