Twenty-seven costume bands have already registered for the National Float Parade to be held on May 26, 2016 as Guyana celebrates its 50th Independence Anniversary.

According to Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon. Nicolette Henry, the costume bands included in the Float Parade are expected to symbolise our Golden Jubilee theme: Reflection, Celebration and Inspiration.

jubileeThe minister said the costume designs will be consistent with Guyana’s national colours while displaying a sense of national pride and patriotism for Guyanese and foreign nationals who will be observing Guyana’s 50th Milestone.

The Golden Jubilee Float Parade will commence with “ten preeminent bands from the Children’s Float Parade” held in February according to Mash Secretariat official Mr. Lennox Canterbury.

Following the Children’s showcase, 27 Jubilee costume bands currently registered from private, public and regional entities are expected to traverse the Jubilee Float Parade route, according to a statement from GINA. These include costume bands from the Guyana Police Force, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Protection, Ministry of Public Health, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, Guyana Amazon Warriors (CPL), Blackett Promotion, Umobile Cellular Inc. Digicel, Regions three, four, five and six, among others.

In an effort to create a “historically symbolized and a shorter child friendly route”, according to Minister Henry, “the costume bands participating in this year’s float parade will assemble at the Stabroek Market Square where the Golden Jubilee Children’s Showcase will commence at 10:00am”.

The parade will then traverse east along Brickdam then into the North West entrance of D’urban Park. “There will be specific judging point areas along the official Float Parade route in order to have a consistent programme throughout the Golden Jubilee Float Parade” stated Head of the Mash Secretariat, Mr. Lennox Canterbury.

Minister Henry pointed out at the press conference on Tuesday May 24 that the Costume Band and Float Parade is expected to conclude at approximately 5:30pm on Thursday at D’urban Park, the finale point for the showcase of participating costume bands.
